Interdisciplinary Didactics

To this end, the teacher training at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) will be focused on. Due to the technical orientation of the KIT, a core competence of teacher training lies in the MINT subjects, including mathematics, computer science, biology, chemistry, physics, engineering education, and natural science and technology (NwT). More than 70% of the student teachers at KIT study at least one MINT subject or sport.

The activities of the team of the junior professorship include the (further) development of a KIT-spanning MINT subject didactics concept for teacher training, the formative evaluation of teaching-learning laboratories of MINT subjects and sports, and the associated strengthening of research-oriented teaching at KIT. In addition, a research focus in (subject-related) didactic perspective is on interdisciplinary school and teaching research on MINT subjects and sports. Special consideration is given to overarching aspects such as digitization, heterogeneity, or prevention of teaching disorders. Innovations resulting from the work are presented, among other things, at conferences on knowledge transfer organized regularly by the professorship.

The professorship was established for the winter semester 2018/2019 with an interdisciplinary orientation at the Institute for Sport and Sports Science (IfSS) of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. It complements the subject-specific didactic areas in the individual subjects and, with the aim of further developing teacher training, cooperates with various institutions such as the Centre for Teacher* Training (ZLB) at the House of Competence (HOC), the Research Centre for School Sport and Sport for Children and Adolescents (FoSS) and the partners of the interdisciplinary cross-university project MINT²KA. Thus, the competences existing at KIT are bundled and synergies are used to further advance interdisciplinary (subject-related) didactic research and to expand the special strengths of KIT in this field.
