Motorik-Modul Study

Study Content

For the assessment of physical fitness and physical activity of children and adolescents, different test items and questionnaires are used.

As outlined below, the assessments of the MoMo Study consists of anthropometric measurements, a validated physical activity questionnaire, a standardized motor performance test battery, and a health interview. In addition, selected participants are asked to wear an accelerometer that measures physical activity duration and intensity over a week (since wave 2).

The MoMo physical activity questionnaire covers different areas of physical activity (active transport, everyday physical activity e.g., playing outdoors, gardening, leisure time exercise, school-based exercise). Furthermore, intensity, type, frequency and duration of physical activity and seasonality are considered. For the assessment of determinants of physical activity, social (social support), psychological (outcome expectancies, physical activity enjoyment, physical self-concept, self-esteem) and environmental determinants (access to sport facilities, physical environment related to physical activity) are taken into account.

To answer one of the relevant questions of MoMo – the influence of physical activity and physical fitness on the development of health – different parameters for physical (obesity, chronic diseases, pain, biochemical risk-factors) and psychosocial health (hyperkinetic syndrome, social competence, mental development, quality of life), as well as social status, migration background, region of residence, details on family situation (number of siblings etc.), living environment and details on health behaviour (smoking, alcohol) are assessed with a health interview.
